Radio Ballads

Posted by Sean Cooney on November 11, 2017 at 12:15 PM

It was a real honour to be asked to write a song for the Ballad of the Great War 1917.   The Radio Ballads are held in very high esteem.  Introduced in the 1950s by Charles Parker and Ewan Maccoll they weave songs around the oral testimonies that inspired them and gave birth to some of the most enduring folk songs of the twentieth century like Shoals of Herring and School Days Over.  Re introduced to mark the centenary of the Great War, my contribution is Trench Raid and has been arranged and performed by Barry Coope.  The programme is broadcast on BBC Radio 2 at 9pm on 11th November 2017 and is available here
