Sean Cooney, also of our favourite folk group The Young’uns, was in school wearing his storytelling hat (not literally, although I’m sure he’s got one!) and he worked with all classes and year groups across the day. The children were enthralled by his tales from all over the world (some true, some not so true) and enjoyed taking part in the interactive parts with real enthusiasm. Storytelling is such an important and enjoyable way of developing literacy skills, especially speaking and listening, that it was great to have a focus on this. Having spent the whole day with the children Sean then gave a training session to staff in order to develop our storytelling skills and to help us plan opportunities within lessons. I know that some classes have included storytelling in their lessons over the past couple of days – including one PE session!

A memorable experience which helped us celebrate World Book Day. All children, staff and parents thoroughly enjoyed listening to and joining in with the many stories. It was fantastic to see how captivated the children were throughout all year groups.

St Bega's Primary School March 2017

We all had a fantastic day. The children are still going around school quoting from your many stories.

Your visit was the perfect ending to our Storytelling Week.

West Park Primary School March 2017

"Thanks so much for coming and doing an inset. It was fab and really motivated everyone. They were buzzing about it the next day and feel really inspired about to teach story telling in EYFS. You gave us lots of good ideas and we even ordered a lot of story telling props the next day. We can't wait for you to come back and work with the children.

I know ks1 were also buzzing from your visit and all staff were talking about you for the rest of the week!!!"

Thank you Sean for visiting our school and making 'National Story Telling Week' extra special for us! Your stories had both the children and staff engaged and smiling! The children loved the actions you taught them with the stories and even now, one week on, they are still re-telling the 'Iggy Jiggy Baa Baa' story.

Keep up the great work!

Hannah Burke, Light Oaks Junior School March 2014

Sean provided lively and engaging sessions for our children, which had them all, from Nursery to Year 6, spellbound. Both children and staff, had a thoroughly enjoyable day. The children spent the rest of their writing week talking about the experience, and had lots of enthusiasm to put pencil to paper.'

St Gabriel's C of E Primary School, Middleton, January 2014

"Sean has once again amazed us with his exceptional storytelling skills. We were delighted to be able to book Sean in National storytelling week where he spent a whole day telling stories to all our pupils ranging from Nursery to year 6. That in itself shows how talented he is to be able to cater for the wide age range and hold each classes attention. He then followed up the day with an assembly where he prepared a year 3 class to retell a Classical Greek myth. Again Sean had the whole school mesmerised. As a staff we all agree that we have never heard anybody tell stories like Sean and we have never known the children to be so motivated to write their own stories as they were after listening to Sean. We would highly recommend Sean to any school."

"An evening of great stories and music.  Sean's relaxed friendly approach encouraged lots of audience participation - a brilliant finale to our litfest!"
